Farewell

Hi all, or should I say goodbye all ...

It's evident that nobody really cares about the blog anymore. Boo hoo.  I totally get it. Life is busy and there isn't enough time to do everything that you "have" to do much less "want" to do. Just so you know, I'm not leaving mad. Hahaha, just being done.

Feel free to post anytime you want but here probably won't be any traffic. I'm not taking this down as there are lots of photos and links that are still interesting and might mean something to someone, but there isn't anything to maintain anymore, so now I have one less thing to do! ;-)

Happy life!

Jump Creek Saturday

After a nice hot breakfast at the Orchard House last Saturday, We (Cal, Alan, and I) loaded up for a February day of partly cloudiness and cooler temps in Marsing. I had never been to this place we were headed. Cal either. Alan had been there about 10 years earlier with his kids, so it was his idea... but we were all looking forward to a change of scenery. After about 20 minutes or so of driving, we pulled into a mostly empty parking area. Bundled up and ready for a little walk, we headed toward what is known as Jump Creek.

It was a muddy stroll. My too big boots were all of a sudden laden with wet clay and more of a cumbrance than they should have been. Plus I was am out of shape. In not too many minutes of a brisk mostly flat walk, we approached a stream that demanded we cross on an unsteady path of different sized rocks, and I got dizzy instantly. I wanted to turn back, but Cal urged me on and even told me he'd stand in the water to help me get across. What a guy! But that wasn't necessary for more than the first few steps. Between both Alan and Cal, I made it across the 15 foot wide creek.

The rest of the hike to the beach was lined with tall skyscraping rocks and caves, and more mud and the rocks were covered with stunningly bright moss and algae. Cal carried a rock hammer and loop thingy so that he could get up close and personal with the architecture.

And then, looming around the bend...there it was. You could hear it as you got close, but nothing prepared you for the sight. The water was pouring over a 50 foot ledge and crashing into the pool in front of us.

We took pictures of this waterfall from every angle and from every height and distance we could accomplish. The water roared down the rocks, we could barely hear each other talking.

By the time we took off for home, it was around lunchtime. Still cloudy for the most part, but there were probably 20 cars there by then and 100 people. I want to go back when everything is green and the sun is out. But it will probably have to be a Tuesday or Wednesday to beat the crowd. People are just tired of gray wintry days and want to see something amazing.

It was a terrific idea! And it WAS amazing.

Thank you Phil!

I was so happy to hear that Punxatawney Phil didn't see his shadow yesterday! It has been so stinking cold here in paradise. Not miserable and wet like it is in southeast Idaho and Utah, but it's been c-o-l-d! Now having said that, I'm entirely aware that in the last 25 years, he's only been right about his predictions 24% of the time. Even giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe the "magical fountain of youth punch" wasn't strong enough or maybe his translator's command of Groundhog-ese was lacking, I still say,

"Sorry Phil, but that's not a good average."

I know I'm not alone in wanting an early spring; all of the trees and bushes around here are looking forward to it too! I have a beautiful Paper Birch that is budding. If those buds freeze, that would be sad. All over Boise, the flowers are beginning to poke their heads out. I know its wrong to want it to come early but it's so beautiful to see life in the form of green growing things when the skies have been gray and the nights have been cold. Of course until it's here to stay, I'll enjoy the warmisher days and find my flowers where I can. I found these in the Boise River.
